Working abroad after finishing our education is a great idea to gain experience or improve a language. We're sure we won't regret it. All advantages
There are many good reasons to look for a job abroad as soon as we finish our studies. First of all, the experience will be invaluable because we will get used to working in a place with different customs and we will learn many things that will improve our curriculum. The work experience we gain will serve us both to continue in the country of our choice and to move to others or return to our own. We will demonstrate that we are capable of being resilient and adapting to different situations, so our CV will already be showing that we have certain very interesting soft skills for companies. In addition, we will learn or improve a language and do networking. Working abroad for a while is really full of advantages and, if we have the opportunity and do not have family responsibilities, it is a great option to consider. Let's see how to achieve it:
1. Prepare a good resume
The classic paper format of the resume, although still valid, is already outdated. At least it is if we deliver it alone. Now what is in vogue is to deliver the CV accompanied by presentation videos, blogs, and any other creative thing that improves our
personal brand. If we want to differentiate ourselves from the rest of the competitors and find work abroad, preparing a different resume and, if possible, in several languages is the best move.
2. Certify languages
The essential thing to work abroad is to have at least a B2 level of English. Logically, the more languages we speak and the higher level we can certify, the better positioned we will be and the easier it will be for us to find work abroad. But it's not enough to show off our fluent French in a video: companies want official certificates, so the ideal thing is to get started on that before anything else.
3. Free job search engines for working abroad
There are many job search engines that claim they can find us work abroad, but not all of them are reliable, and not all of them are free. Let's not be scammed: if a website guarantees us that we will find a great job in the USA in less than a month for the modest price of 100 €, it's a scam. What we need to do is create a profile on secure and free search engines where we will actually find work. Let's see some of them:
EURES: It is the official employment portal of the European Union and allows job searches in any member country and the creation of a personal profile with our skills, languages, and resume so that European employers can easily find us. The portal is very intuitive and easy to use, and of course, completely free.
IAgora: Portal specialized in students and recent graduates. Registration is free and so is applying for any job offer, but it also has a premium paid service.
Euromovilidad: It is also official and, in addition to helping us find work or training abroad, it has a blog that collects experiences and advice from others who have gone through the experience of working in other countries. Its Twitter profile is also very interesting.
CEXT: It is an official portal, but it is conceived as a social network for young people who want to study or work abroad or who are already there, so they can share resources and experiences.
4. Let's not forget about LinkedIn
The data from 2021 tells us that
LinkedIn has more than 830 million registered users worldwide, making it the most popular professional social network of the moment. Its usefulness goes far beyond transferring our traditional resume to the web. LinkedIn, as a good social network, connects professionals in the same sector and helps connect people who are actively looking for a job with the companies that need them. It currently includes more than 58 million companies from around the world, and according to the 2021 Social Media Use study by Pew Research Center, 87% of recruiters regularly use this website.
5. Request the eTítulo from our university
eTítulo is the service through which universities, business schools, professional colleges, and other training centers provide their students with academic documents in electronic format. In the case of Official University Degrees, it generates and manages authentic electronic copies of these, which can also be applied to the European Diploma Supplement, accompanying our diploma. To better understand how useful it is and how it can help us find work abroad, in this video we explain it to you in one minute: [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYZ_l6Oco18&t=37s&ab_channel=etitulo[/embed] There are already more than 41 universities, business schools, and training centers that offer their students the eTítulo service, such as the Complutense University of Madrid, the University of Salamanca, the University of Castilla-La Mancha, the International University of Valencia, the University of Almería, and many others. Here we can check if ours is included or not, and if it is not, we can request the dean's office to join so that we can obtain our degrees in this format, which will be of great help if our plan is to look for work abroad because, for starters, we won't have to transport the paper diploma from one place to another and we can easily send it by email to the companies that interest us. Good luck to everyone!
