Finding the balance between studying and the rest of the things that involve being alive can be complicated. We help you.
Living matters
In the transition from high school to college, there are many changes. One of them is a huge amount of subject matter per subject that we had never seen before. If we are minimally responsible and, at the same time, minimally chaotic or disorganized, it will be quite difficult for us to find the necessary balance to be able to cope with everything, get our university eTitle and not accumulate a huge level of stress. And that's not taking into account the extra that those people who combine study with some work endure, those who have family responsibilities, those who have partners and friends, those who like to play a sport, those who want to finish a novel or those who dare to have fun from time to time. In short: anyone who does not have a healthy level of neurosis that makes them organize everything methodically, may find themselves in the unpleasant situation of feeling that they must choose between their studies and life. But it is not. If we organize ourselves well, we can find a balance and not end up nervous.
In perfect balance
The key to being able to enjoy our youth and, at the same time, get our
university eTitle with good grades and even to combine this with a job, consists of understanding that we need balance and organization. Balance to know what our priorities are and organization to be able to prioritize them and assign them the precise amount of time and dedication. It seems a bit like juggling, but once we get used to functioning like this, it will come naturally to us. Let's see a series of tips so that we can lead a more balanced life and, therefore, a more complete and happy life:
Establish objectives
It is not possible to do everything that comes next without having an agenda. That is the first step. Once we have it, we must establish monthly, weekly and daily objectives and prioritize them to see the time we will dedicate to each thing. If we work, the schedules will be clear. As for the studies, we must put how many hours a day we are going to dedicate to studying during that month and create a rigorous schedule that we can follow. In this schedule, we will also include the times we are going to dedicate to sports (which is essential for our physical and mental health, concentration and memory), rest, friends, partner or hobbies.
Pending tasks
We must try with all our strength not to procrastinate because, in addition to unraveling all the organization we try to create, it has been shown to be related to suffering in the future
mental and physical illnesses. To avoid procrastination and find the balance we are looking for, we must take care of doing any pending tasks as soon as possible. Life is not just about studying, working, having fun, and resting. Unfortunately, there are also annoying bureaucratic procedures, doctors to visit, papers to submit, and things like that. All these pending tasks must be written down on a list, prioritized in order of importance, and we must take care of them as soon as possible.
Winning time
To find the balance and give us time to take care of everything, we must do each task as efficiently as possible. When studying, we will use the study techniques that provide us with the best performance. For travel, we will think about the most appropriate routes and means of transportation. We can cook for several days and freeze to save time in the kitchen or do online shopping instead of having to go to the supermarket.
Technologies also provide balance
For people who find it difficult to carry out their tasks in a systematic way, technology is a great ally. Applications like Google Calendar, Todoist, Evernote, or Trello can help us lead a fully organized life.
Balance in rest
All this is not about turning our lives into hell or raising stress levels or losing sleep. On the contrary: it is about organizing ourselves well and thus being able to gain time for ourselves, our health, our happiness, and our rest. Not only do we have to sleep 8 hours a day, but we must also take several short breaks throughout the day to disconnect the mind and recharge our energy. If we are the type of people who, when they start a task, get trapped and do not stop until 12 hours later, we will have to set alarms that mark when to stop. And listen to those alarms, of course.
Teamwork is better
Family, friends, or our partner are not only for good leisure times. They can also help us when we are overwhelmed; the thing is that we have to ask for help and not expect them to read our minds. If we need space or tranquility to study, we must tell them and not feel bad. If we need them to ask us the lesson, we can also ask them, and if we need them to take over with some task in moments of more stress, the same. When human beings function in a supportive and collaborative way, everything goes better for us, and we all win.
Mental balance
Meditation has multiple health benefits. If we want to be more focused, more rested, with more energy, and for our studies to yield more, starting to meditate is a great idea. It is important to remember that combining study time with other responsibilities requires practice and patience. We must not give up just because it is difficult at first. If we make an effort and keep trying, we will find the formula that works best for us to have a full life and a good balance between obligations and fun.
