Study again to reinvent yourself professionally

Study again to reinvent yourself professionally
If we consider returning to study to improve our profile or to radically change our field, we are surely about to make the best decision.

Myself, but in version 2.0

Whether our current degree (or the absence of one) prevents us from advancing in our profession, or because we want to improve our resume and specialize in something specific, or because we need to expand our knowledge of new technologies, picking up the books again is a great idea. It is possible that resuming studies scares us, that we feel that we will have deficiencies, or that we will no longer have the same abilities as when we were younger, but reality will surprise us: studying as adults is much easier. Perhaps we have lost certain quick memorization skills and we may feel more tired (especially when we are going to combine studies with our regular work), but that is compensated by a much more normal amount of hormones that does not make us have our heads in the clouds, maturity, clear objectives, and a lot of work and life experience. In summary: when we choose to return to studying as adults, we discover that everything is much simpler and more rewarding than we thought; that is why it will be very easy for us not only to pass our studies without any problem, but also to stand out and achieve a great academic record. Obtaining the eTitle will be much more accessible than we think.

Returning to study to reinvent ourselves

It may also be that we want to dedicate ourselves to something completely different. That we want to study what was our vocation but that we did not choose for practical reasons. Sometimes we opt for the easy way, for what our parents want or for what offers more job opportunities, and then we see that we have a thorn stuck with specific studies. So, why not do it? Studying what we like is undoubtedly a great satisfaction even if it does not get us a wonderful salary increase. Perhaps we have found that there is a lack of professionals in a new sector that we find interesting and we want to try our luck, or we have an interesting job opportunity that requires previous training. Either way, we should not fear reinventing ourselves, no matter how old we are, and even less be afraid of returning to study. It is never too late to change direction.

Returning to study to start a business

Another good reason to return to studying as adults is the possibility of starting a business. Even if we are going to create a company in a sector that we know well, increasing our knowledge will help us a lot. A course in business marketing, a university master's degree in business management, branding or web design, a course that helps us with accounting, or directly any type of MBA (for which normally a degree is not required, but professional experience must be demonstrated) can turn our business idea into a successful company.

What can we expect from returning to classes?

Above all, satisfaction and enthusiasm. Also, some stress when the first exams arrive and perhaps a bit of insecurity at first, but in general, what we will obtain is always a gain. Making the decision to return to studying implies wanting a change for the better and being willing to fight for it, so we will find ourselves once again excited about future possibilities that we may have stopped dreaming about a long time ago. We will feel satisfied with ourselves for having taken the step of daring to change our lives and for the successes that we are sure to achieve. And, of course, when we finish, we will be proud of ourselves and delighted with the improvements that studying has brought to our professional and personal lives. But before the laurels, there is a certain barrier that we must overcome: the fear of not being capable. In addition, returning to study gives us an invaluable opportunity to network with our classmates and teachers, as well as with the people we meet through conferences and during internships. And with our experience, we will definitely take advantage of those contacts.

Overcoming the fear of returning to study

As we said, studying as adults is easier than it seems. If we have one hour a day to study for five days a week, we have it done. With a little daily discipline, preparing for exams will be a piece of cake (especially if you follow our blog, where we tell you every week the best study techniques to make the time invested in studying as effective as possible). On the other hand, the time spent studying and reviewing our notes will not be as tedious as it seemed to us at 20 because we will be more interested and focused on our goals. When it comes to preparing exams or doing assignments, we will need to invest a little more time, but if we have regularly done our daily work, we will hardly need anything to get great grades.
