The 5 things you can't miss at the beginning of the course

The 5 things you can't miss at the beginning of the course
Classes begin another year and there are 5 things you can't miss to succeed in the new school year. We'll tell you about them so you don't start without them.

Motivation

An ingredient that cannot be missing when starting this new school year is motivation. Each person has to find their own, and it will be essential for us to finish the degree and obtain the eTitle that will give us access to the job of our dreams. We need to be aware that there will be subjects that we hate and moments when we feel like giving up, but if we are able to find motivation in the goal, in our future profession, in rubbing the title in the face of our perfect sibling or in whatever we want, that will be the push we need to continue another year and the ones to come. At the beginning of the school year, it is easy to find that motivation, but if we don't pay attention to the reasons that make us excited about what we are studying, when we reach the midpoint of the course, we may not even remember. That's why it's important that now, while we're still fresh, we list all the things we like about our future profession, the things that interest us about the degree, our short, medium and long-term goals, and make a list that serves as a reminder and a driving force to continue.

Self-care

Taking time for ourselves and our well-being is healthy. During the holidays, we may have participated in several activities that made us feel happy, and we shouldn't completely abandon them just because the school year begins. For example, sports are essential to maintain a good balance, so we shouldn't give up sports activities during the school year. In fact, if we don't regularly engage in sports, this is a great time to start. If we ensure physical activity before or after class, we will be healthier, more focused, and happier. We will perform better and also feel better about ourselves. Sports stimulate our concentration and help us relax during the hours we have to sit in class. During exams, it will significantly reduce our stress.

Embrace organization

Having good organization is essential to successfully complete the course, and that's why it can't become one of those New Year's resolutions that are forgotten two days later. We need to plan and organize, and for that, it's best to have an agenda and USE IT, of course. Yes, that's the bad news, buying or downloading it is not enough, we also have to fill it out and keep it up to date. We all know that feeling of "there's still a long way to go until the deadline for the assignment" or "I still have plenty of time to study" and the horrible realization that we had overestimated the duration of the weeks and that the dates have caught up with us. Well, all of that is solved with an agenda, and even better if we add a visible calendar on our wall. Having order and doing good time planning and management will help us a lot throughout our entire degree, reducing stress and giving us real control over our studies.

Start the year with a prepared nest

Designing our own study space, creating a place just for us that we only use for studying and decorating it as we want is a great activity to start the school year. Even if we already have that space because we haven't had to move, it's positive to give it a twist and introduce some changes that make us feel better, more comfortable, and motivated. If we create a place where we feel comfortable, with good lighting, a spacious table, and a comfortable chair, it will be less burdensome to spend hours there. Having our own space, even if it's within our parents' house, will make us concentrate better and spend more time studying. Taking advantage of the last days of vacation to create that place or improve the one we already had can help us mentally prepare for the start of the new year.

New year, new notes

Here we have talked several times about how important it is to take notes to succeed in our degree. Having good notes will save us many hours of study and stress, we just have to give up chatting with our classmates or checking social media during class and start writing. Actually, it's not that complicated because we can check our phone later, we can meet with our classmates after class, and with the teacher... generally not. We only have that moment to make the most of our time. Several studies have shown that the best way to take notes is to write by hand. Although it may sound outdated and the laptop is more convenient, it turns out that manual writing is directly related to our memory storage, so we will remember much better what we write than what we type. If we want note-taking to truly benefit us and not just go to class to warm the seat, then we must grab pen and paper and get to work.
